Have you been to an ABC run?

by Merlin Anderson

ABC Runs (ABC=Adventures Benefiting Children) are social runs featuring pot-luck food sharing and free-will donations to local children’s charities.

ABC runs are fun and relaxed: you run as fast and far as you want,  give as much as you want, eat as much as you want, bring food to share if you want, and socialize as much as you want.

ABC runs are perfectly cost-effective: 100% of what you give goes to the chosen charity for the event because there are no expenses for t-shirts, trophies, timing services, etc.

ABC runs happen about ten times per year.  The first one was in January 2005.  Through April of 2013, 84 ABC runs have been held.  Total attendance has been 3,156 and total giving is up to $56,422.

Almost 900 different people have attended at least one ABC run.  We have supported a total of 25 different local children’s charities/causes.  Some of the most frequently supported charities include: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Baby Fold, Sugar Grove Nature Center, Boys & Girls Club, Heartland Head Start, The Children’s Foundation, McLean County Child Protection Network.

You can find out about upcoming ABC runs through event notices on the Lake Run Club Facebook page or you can ask to be placed on Merlin’s email list.  Just contact Merlin at abcrunner@frontier.com.
