What's In A Year?
What's in a Year?
This coming Saturday, November 14th marks the one year anniversary of Boots & I owning Fleet Feet Sports Buffalo. We appreciate how much you have welcomed us. It has been such a whirlwind year that we hope you have been able to enjoy. First, a huge thank you to our Store Manager,Brian Stewart and all the staff for helping making this transition great. We would be lying if we said change is easy. However the staff have been remarkable and steadfast in helping us with our mission and vision. The store itself underwent some changes with some remodeling, iPads to improve the footwear fitting process and increased product options including Salomon, Craft, Tailwind, Hoka One One, Skratch Labs, Helly Hansen, Under Armour, Altra Zero Drop, Montrail, Darn Tough Vermont, Oofos, Smartwool, Fivesse bags. Produced a custom Buffalo only BOCO hat featuring the city skyline and a Limited Edition 7RUN6 apparel including Launch Pack, Team Pack and Tailgate Pack. Plus changed the Personal Rewards Loyalty program so you can earn rewards quicker.
Additional free community runs/clinics/events were added including the Monday Fun Day Workouts, weekly Medical Monday clinics, monthly Pub Runs, monthly trail runs led by Jim Cilienski, special group runs with footwear demos, tacos, ice cream trucks, pizza, coffee and of course beer. Added Addaday Injury Prevention Clinics and free Good Form Running Clinics. We were fortunate enough to be able to donate monies to Buffalo RACIN' and pairs of Mizuno shoes to the Hutch Tech XC team, and this was because of all your help. US Olympian, Todd Williams came to the store to teach a Run Safer workshop and US Olympian Nick Symmonds came to the store to meet the community and answer questions.
We are so appreciative of the coaches, mentors and pace leaders who have helped us increase the training program offerings under the supervision of Training Coordinator, Kateri Walsh and Half/Full Marathon Coach, Dana Dobinski. All these folks were pivotal in allowing No Boundaries: Learn to Run program to be enhanced and offered 3 times per year with twice/week workouts, plus the addition of 2pt0, 3pt0 and WalkFIT. The Half/Full Marathon Program, also now twice/week coached workouts, got to tour various locations in the region with their mighty pace leaders in 3 different seasons. The Ton of Fun Weight Loss Program was kicked off and has helped Buffalo lose upwards of 1000 pounds. Speed Camp was introduced for 3 sessions, along with the upcoming Winter Warrior Program.
Internally, we were able to hire Lizzy Mahoney to full time as our Shipping and Receiving Manager. A Corporate Wellness Coordinator, Julia Montroy, came on board full time to work with companies and medical organizations. Kristen Hall who has been here since the transition, has been integral in training new staff on products, fitting and everything Fleet Feet Sports. I would be remiss if I didn't include Pace Leader, Pat Wilson, who transitioned from the Rochester programs to Buffalo and loved it so much became a part time employee at Buffalo. Plus much thanks to all the part time staff Alex C, Alex D, Chad, Bella, Steve, Stephanie, Amy and Justin.
So what's in a year? A LOT. When we first met the staff, we set the stage for all the happenings we wanted to add. It's no secret Boots and I move fast and continue to strive to bring everything possible to you, our customers. But frankly without the above mentioned people and groups, plus you, this year would not have been as remarkable as it has. This Thursday, Nov. 12th at 6PM is the Taco Trot, the anniversary of the first pub run/walk we ever attended during the 8 ft snow storm. We hope you can join us, bring 1 or 2 nonperishable food items to be donated to the "Friends of Night People" charity and let's close out the year with a group 2-4 mile run/walk (sans snow this time).
Thank you for reading this! Thank you Buffalo for a great year and many more to come.
