Fast Times at Chico Masters

The annual Chico Masters 4-miler took place at Cedar Grove in Bidwell Park, and there were some quick runners out there.  Despite a last minute course change, the top two guys finished with times well under 6 minute miles, Alberto Gomez coming out on top in a time of 23:21. He finished just 9 seconds ahead of Anthony D'acquisto. The women's winner was Marie Waidtlow in a time of 32:31, finishing just 23 seconds ahead of Alison Dirks. With the bridge under the freeway being declared too dangerous by the Parks Department just 45 minutes before the race start, an emergency race course reroute was put in place. On a beautiful morning for a race, the change didn't seem to deter the runners at this premier NorCal event for the over 40 crowd.
