Training for the last Dam to Dam
Dam to Dam, Iowa's Distance Classic, holds a special place in our hearts. The staff here at Fleet Feet Davenport has completed it a combined 17 times and we'd love for you to join us as we prepare for the last running on June 2, 2018!
Not familiar with the race? Dam to Dam began in 1980 as a 20k. Runners begin on top of the Saylorville Lake Dam and make their way to downtown Des Moines, crossing over the Des Moines River at the Iowa Women of Achievement Bridge. In 2014, the race bumped up the mileage and became a half marathon (an additional 0.7 miles for those doing the math.) The last year of Dam to Dam will be going back to the traditional 20k route and distance. Some of the highlights along the route include: beautiful morning views atop Saylorville Lake Dam, Memorial Hill which is lined with flags and a group of kilt wearing bagpipers await you at the top, great volunteers at water stations (some even themed), running along the Des Moines River and finishing near the Pappajohn Sculpture Park.
Other things not to be missed that set this race apart: the pre-race packet pickup party (beer, snacks, live music), Brooks participant shirt and socks, post-race party at Cowles Commons in downtown Des Moines all morning (beer, ice cream, live music, pulled pork sandwiches and more!)
Sound pretty awesome? Trust us, IT IS.
