Run Towards Justice
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." --Martin Luther King, JR
In a show of support and unity for our black, brown and olive skinned community, we are hosting a special socially-distanced, silent run this Friday evening at 6:30pm. Runners must wear a mask and keep at least 6' apart.
The Run for Justice is not a race. It's not meant to be social. It's meant to remind us to do more than just speak words. We must act and work towards real and meaningful change.
The run will begin and end at the store and follow a 1/2 mile loop on the sidewalks through West Hartford Center. Participants will run in single-file (at least 6' apart) and have a face mask.
Everyone is encouraged to run in silence, focusing on their breath. The breath that gives us life. The breath that people like George Floyd and Eric Garner can no longer take.
Let us not take our breath for granted. Let our future breaths and runs remind us to work towards justice every day. To treat people with equity and fairness, humility and compassion. To replace prejudice with respect. To do the right thing, even when it's not the easy thing.
In honor of all of our black and brown friends, customers and running mates, we are donating $1,000 to Black Lives Matter to aid their efforts for real change in our world. And while there is no cost to participate in our Run Towards Justice, we encourage those who can to also make a donation.
