This week I’m going to take a quick break from all the “adventuring” and share an exciting opportunity! The adventures will resume next time at Summerville’s Monday Runday.
You know all those amazing athletes we’ve been watching on TV the past couple weeks? They didn’t get to the largest world stage by themselves. Throughout their athletic career there was a community behind the athletes, supporting, and cheering them on. Regardless of whether the aspirations are at an international level or in their own backyard, Fleet Feet Charleston is committed to being part of the supportive community helping young people reach their full potential.
One inhibitor to success that Fleet Feet Charleston has recognized throughout the years is the lack of access to proper athletic equipment. In 2019 we launched the SPARK (Supporting Passionate Athletes With Resources and Kindness) Scholarship to reduce the financial burden of sports by providing the young athletes with properly fitting shoes, socks, insoles, and sports bras. We hope this opportunity will relieve some of the financial barriers imposed by sports and allow young athletes to focus on following their passions.
This year, with the help of Brooks and New Balance, Fleet Feet will be awarding scholarships to 10-15 young athletes.
WHO CAN APPLY?
High school athletes in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties who have demonstrated a need to be properly fitted shoes, socks, insoles, and sports bras.
HOW TO APPLY:

CRITERIA:
Applicant must meet four out of six of the following criteria
- GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Involved in at least one sports-related extra-curricular activity
- One or more academic and/or extra-curricular activity that is NOT sports related
- Exhibit the need for financial assistance
- Demonstrate at least two of the Fleet Feet Core Values:

* Work, sweat, and live passionately
* Make every interaction memorable
The application deadline is September 15th.
