The Fleet Feet Outfitting Process focuses on providing you with running shoes that fit properly, gear that improves your experience and knowledge to help you move your best—whether that’s a 10-minute walk or a four hour marathon. Through the use of our 3D fit id® foot scanning technology, we are able to gather information about your feet and the support they need by taking precise measurements of your foot length, width and arch height.
Everyone's feet are unique. From the arch to the instep to the width, each person’s foot is shaped very differently. Additionally, everyone has different fitness or comfort goals when shopping for a well-fitted shoe. Going through the fit process allows us to map each individual’s unique foot characteristics and see how their feet interact with the ground. Armed with this information, we are better able to find a shoe that aligns with your foot shape and fitness goals. Ultimately a properly fitted shoe will prevent aches, pains, and injuries. It is super important to know the features of your foot to know which shoes are the best fit for you!
The Fit Process also allows us to address specific needs when folks are shopping for their ideal shoe. We can decipher each person’s preference for cushion level, or address any issues someone might be having with their feet. For example, someone might have pain in the ball of their foot requiring a shoe with a lower drop. While someone with plantar fasciitis may need a completely different shoe to accommodate their recovery.
The Fleet Feet fit process takes a more “unconventional” approach and allows us to address each person’s specific needs. By watching folks walk in their bare feet we can check for unusual movement in the ankles or knees, check to see if an individual is pronating or supinating, or if their calves are tight. This information helps us select insoles which customize the fit of a shoe and redistribute pressure under the foot. Most people don’t realize that shoes are flat on the inside, so besides redistributing pressure, a properly fitted insole can provide extra support to the arch as well as shore up the natural pad of the heel. Overall, we at Fleet Feet are in a unique position to add support and comfort in other ways on top of the correct shoe placement.” - Danielle (Store Manager, Carnes Crossroads)
Danielle's Fit Story
The very first time I was fitted at Fleet Feet was in Winter 2017. I had just joined the No Boundaries training group in shoes that were too old, not the right size, and not the right shape for my foot. After going through the Fit Process I learned I needed a full size larger and that the ball of my foot was a tad wider
than average, requiring a shoe with a wider toe box. Armed with new shoes, I signed up for and completed the No Boundaries Beginner 5K program. From there I went on to do the Intermediate 5K program, the 10K program, and many years and many Fleet Feet shoe fittings later, I was able to finish my first marathon in October of last year. I credit the fit process and training programs at Fleet Feet for helping me achieve that goal.
I love that the experience you have in our stores is so personal and so memorable. I still remember the person, the store, and the overall experience of my first fitting. At Fleet Feet Charleston, our goal is to inspire, educate, and empower people of all ages to live a healthy, fit lifestyle. We want to be the resource for all your walking, running and general fitness needs while providing you with the highest level of customer service. We are committed to helping you reach your goals and celebrating your achievements with you. This all starts with the Fit Process.
