Andrew Bishop and Melissa Cunningham are two local Summerville runners who competed in (and were top finisher in) the 4th Annual Cocoa Cup 5K back in December. This race helped raise over $23,000 for the Lowcountry Food Bank. Congrats to both Andrew, Melissa, and all the other runners who finished.
Wear Melissa's Shoes!
Of all the shoes you wear, which are your favorite and why? My favorite shoes are Brooks Launch 4 for training and the New Balance Foam Fresh Zantes for racing.
Have you ever had a nickname? What is it? My nickname is Noony. I have no idea how I got that name. My father has called me that since the day I was born.
What was your first job? My first job was a waitress at a Marina on the lake.
What’s your favorite family tradition? My favorite family tradition is cooking a German meal for my family at Christmas and spending all day in our PJs. A new tradition we started last year is going to the beach and building a sand snowman since it never snows here... (well 10 days later we finally got snow!!)
Aside from necessities, what’s something you can’t live without? I absolutely can't live without GPS. I am notoriously known for getting lost on not only group runs but during races as well!
If you had 30 minutes of free time, what would you do? If I had only 30 minutes of free time, I would either read a good book or read a good book with my children.
If you were Waldo, where would you be? If I were Waldo I would be on a beautiful beach by the ocean, or somewhere across the country running a race...
Wear Andrew's Shoes!
Of all the shoes you wear, which are your favorite and why? My Favorite running shoe of all time is the Saucony Hurricane 14. The Hurricane 14 was my first ever expensive running shoe. I loved the key pocket that was in the tongue of the shoe. It kept my Nike running sensor for the Sportwatch GPS. I bought 5 pairs of Hurricanes and ran with them for 4 years. But with every great shoe they stop making it.
Have you ever had a nickname? What is it? Ever since middle school my nickname has been Rip C, it all started with playing video games with friends and creating my own gamertag. In middle school I thought I was going to be the next Kelly Slater/ Mick Fanning and liked the surf company Rip Curl. I took the company name dropped the “url” in Curl and Wa-la my nickname was born.
What was your first job? Working at a small engine repair shop. My job was to put tools back in the tool box and sweep/clean the shop. Sometimes my boss would trust me to take a carburetor off a lawnmower and walk me through the steps of cleaning a carb.
What’s your favorite family tradition? My favorite family tradition is going to the beach. From when I was a little child my mother and father would take us to Myrtle Beach every summer. It’s something that my parents are still doing every year. My brother and I still get invited every summer. Being with family is a very important tradition.
Aside from necessities, what’s something you can’t live without? I love doing yardwork, so the thing I couldn’t live without is my lawnmower. I’ve been cutting grass since I’ve been able to push a lawnmower. It’s something I hated to do as a child, but now I love to do as an adult. It’s something about fresh cut grass that makes me happy.
If you had 30 minutes of free time, what would you do? With 30 minutes of free time I would take a walk in the woods. It’s amazing how much detail God has put into nature. You can learn a lot about life just by watching and listening.
If you were Waldo, where would you be? I would be hunting or fishing in Four hole swamp. It’s something I grew up doing and wouldn’t want it any other way. Something about the blackwater that makes it interesting.
