Shoe Update - New Balance 980 Fresh Foam
We were surprised when our New Balance rep. brought this shoe by the store sometime late last year. We currently have a great selection of neutral New Balance shoes from the steady yet cushioned 880 to the light-weight, slipper-like-fit 890. We thought about breezing right by this shoe, but we didn't and are glad we gave it a second glance. The Fresh Foam looks a bit strange at first. Rather than a clean, solid midsole it has a pattern that I can only describe as a mix between beehives and golf balls. The midsole geometry allows squishy cushion at some parts, but a solid firm feel at others. It has a high amount of plush cushion all on a 4MM heel-to-toe ratio. Think about the ride of a minimialist shoe like the Saucony Kinvara or Brooks Pure series, with the cushion of a neutral trainer like the Saucony Ride or Brooks Ghost.
The New Balance 980 introduces a great mixture between sophisticated software with the touch of a human designer. It fills a gap in our neutral shoe selection. It has the feel and form featured in popular minimalist shoes, but the durability and cushion of a trainer. We are really excited to offer this shoe at both of our locations. Stop by and try on this new innovation by one of America's greatest privately-owned companies.
