My Staff Pick of the Week are XC Spikes. I absolutely love the Saucony Carrera XC 2. At 4.2 oz the Carerra is the lightest XC spike on the market. The Carrera has been long advertised as the most elite XC spike out there. This year's model was designed by two elite athletes, Ben True and Molly Huddle. With PR's for 5K of 13:02 and 14:42 respectively, they certainly know how to go fast.
However, these spikes are not exclusive to elite athletes, and are a great fit for many high school and colleges runners just looking to be able to perform well this XC season. My favorite part about the fit is the ISO-FIT upper which hugs the foot nicely and gives the spikes a custom fitting feel to it. I also love the versatility of the Carrera. It's able to withstand almost any conditions from gravel to mud and grass to trail.
The second most important part of performing well in cross country is getting fit for the right pair of spikes for you. The first of course is consistent, smart and well-executed training.
