NOBO Mentor Ann

MEET YOUR MENTOR: ANN

Prior to joining No Boundaries in the fall of 2012, I had participated in various exercise classes and activities to lose weight and get healthy. There is a history of blood clots and asthma in my family, and my heavy weight was certainly not working in my favor. 75 pounds and later, I found myself stuck. My goal was within reach, but I just couldn’t get there. I was discouraged and struggling with motivation. I’d run random charity 5K’s with friends, but really struggled. My back hurt and I had shin splints. Clearly, I was not made for running. At my husband’s urging, I went to Fleet Feet for new shoes. The rest, as they say, is history.

Jessica fitted me for new shoes and carefully listened to my challenges and struggles. She suggested I check out the No Boundaries program. I signed up, and was terrified. I’m NOT fast, so could I keep up? Would people laugh at me? Would I fail? The No Boundaries mentors welcomed me, embraced me, and encouraged me every step of the way. The NoBo participants cheer each other on, and inspire me to keep going.

A few years ago, I was in the ER with two blood clots in my lungs. The doctors told me that my exercise regimen was a contributing factor to my survival and speedy recovery. My heart was strong! I rarely use my inhaler anymore, as my lungs are stronger too. Being active has become a way of life for me, and the number on the scale is just a number. I can do things now that I could never have done a few years ago. Running DOES change everything. I look forward to walking/running with you, and know that whatever your motivation is, you CAN do this.
