SMART Goals in 2015

SMART Goals in 2015!

It's that time of year when optimism strikes and we promise ourselves that our New Year's resolutions will (definitely) work out this time. Never mind that last year a work project got in the way, or the year before that your kids' activities interfered and your resolution was abandoned by February 1... and you know the drill.

About 45% of Americans make a New Year’s resolution - some of the most popular include weight loss, healthy eating and exercising. Only a tiny fraction of us keep our resolutions; University of Scranton research suggests that just 8% of people achieve their New Year’s goals. There are plenty of reasons a person may not stick to their resolution, but often the goal was decided upon without a plan. This year, let us help you set SMART goals to meet your active resolution in 2015!

S = Specific: Your goal should be as specific as possible. Make it a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Full Marathon or Personal Best in a distance.

M = Measurable: How will you measure your goal? All of our training programs set a "goal race" at the end of the program to keep you focused and accountable.

A = Attainable: Goals should push you, but it is important that they are achievable. We take pride in helping you safely increase your fitness level to minimize injury risk.

R = Relevant: Is your goal realistic and relevant to your life? It is important to identify the resources you need to achieve your goal. Our group workouts strive to enhance your running/walking experience on every level, offering proven success in a fun and supportive social environment. In addition to detailed training plans, each program incorporates educational components, speakers, and weekly email communication so our participants leave with more knowledge and information than when they started.

T= Time Frame: Do you have a time frame listed on your SMART Goal? Commit yourself to a distance, and we determine the time frame for you. Our programs range from 8-12 weeks and are designed specifically to meet the unique needs of runners and walkers.

Happy New Year - I hope to see you in 2015!

SpeedPLAY

Don't let the name scare you, SpeedPLAY is not just for “fast” runners, it is open to ANYONE who wants to work on becoming more efficient while challenging their current running pace.

Speed work is an important part of any training routine. Speed work doesn’t just make you run faster. Speed work makes you fitter, increases the range of movement in your joints, makes you more comfortable at all speeds, and it will ultimately help you to run harder for longer. These sessions have been carefully designed to be beneficial to those who specialize in any distance and can be utilized by ANY level of runner. In addition, interval type training is one of the most efficient ways to burn calories!

Our SpeedPLAY Training Programs are a great way to stay race ready and mix up your weekly running miles while becoming a more well-rounded runner. The 8-week SpeedPLAY Training Program blocks are offered 3x/year and can easily compliment any of our training programs offered throughout the year (5K – full marathon).

You can sign up for all three blocks at once, or choose a block based on your personal goals and racing calender.

Spring Block: (April 7, 2015 – May 28, 2015)
Summer Block: (June 9, 2015 – July 30, 2015)
Fall Block: (August 11, 2015 – October 1, 2015)
