Uwharrie National Forest: Wood Run Trailhead
Wood Run Trailhead
NC-27, Mt Gilead, NC 27306
Map to trailhead
Driving time: Approx 1:45 - 2 hours from Raleigh.
Trail distance: Any distance out and back or 8-20 mile loops
Description: Single track trail with steep inclines and lots of flora and fauna. At the Woodrun trailhead there are two trail options: Woodrun Trail and Uwharrie Trail. Both intersect each other at various points. Recommendation: Use the AllTrails app to help navigate new areas. There are pdf maps on the Uwharrie website but they are a bit rough to use to navigate the trails.
Packing list: Water and food for whatever distance you plan to cover (plus extra just in case!). A running hydration pack is highly recommended with at least a 2 liter bladder.
Other notes: This is a great day trip or overnight weekend trip. There are several camping options in the National Forest, or you can find hotels in nearby Albemarle. Check out the website for lots of useful planning information.
