Women's History Month Highlight: Raleigh Distance Project
The final local organization we're highlighting for Women's History month is the Raleigh Distance Project! RDP is an elite distance running team of dedicated, driven women cultivating a support system to help Triangle-area runners accomplish their dreams. The team strives to promote running and fitness, inspire runners of all levels of ability, and help to grow a vibrant and inclusive running community here in the Triangle.
The commitment RDP's members have to their sport is evident in their success: Last year, three team members broke the American track records in the 20k, 25k, and 30k; and several members are Olympic Trial Qualifiers. You can keep track of their race results for the year here.
When they're not chasing big goals in their own races, RDP bolsters the running community by hosting weekly open group runs, working aid stations at local races, maintaining a local running guide to the best area running spots and social runs, and their team blog with inspiring personal posts about issues like running while pregnant and recovering from injury. The team also organizes events to support the Raleigh community at large, like last August's shoe drive benefitting Food Not Bombs Raleigh.
