Signs of the Times

Half and full marathon season is officially upon us.  And with nearly a long race every weekend from now through early November, this is a good time to discuss what is often a poorly-planned, if not downright neglected, aspect of race day: spectator support signs.  Yes, we have all seen those last-second, thrown-together monstrosities where the Sharpie evidently died halfway through.  "Go Da" and "You can d" are two that come to mind.  As a dedicated coach for FLEET FEET Training it is my sworn duty to preserve the sanctity of race day.  As such, I am offering up some sign ideas that are sure to help keep runners motivated and entertained as the clock off the miles.

  • Worst Parade Ever!!!
  • Run like a Kenyan
  • Run now; Beer later
  • I am ____'s athletic supporter.
  • That's not sweat... it's fat cells crying.
  • Chuck Norris never ran a marathon.
  • Run like you stole something.
  • There's a zombie behind you.
  • Toenails are for sissies.
  • You've got great stamina.  Call me.
  • You've come this far; you may as well finish.
  • Smile, you are beating all the people behind you.
  • Dear total stranger, You're my hero.
  • Dude, whoever you are, run real far, real fast
  • You training for this was longer than Kim Kardashian was married.
  • That's not sweat... that's liquid awesome.
  • Chafe now; Drink later
  • Hurry up, the beer at the finish line won't drink itself.
  • As Charlie Sheen would say... Winning!
  • Remember, you paid to do this.
  • This seemed like a good idea a few months ago, didn't it?
  • Who needs nipples?
  • Your feet are hurting from kicking so much ass.
  • Run faster.  Holding this sign is tiring.
  • Hurry, we're cold.
  • It'll feel better when it stops hurting.
  • Don't stop.  People are watching.
  • New Years resolution...Check!
  • Pain is temporary.  Finishing is forever.
  • Why do all the cute one's run away?

If you have any other ideas, please add them in the Comment section and help stomp out the "Run Forrest Run" or "You're almost there!" signs forever. Seeing a cavalcade of creative signs on the race course really does help our friends, family members, and neighbors reach their goals on race day.

Good Luck and Happy Racing!
