The Person in the Mirror

"Life is not a spectator sport. If you're going to spend your whole life in the grandstand just watching what goes on, in my opinion you're wasting your life." ~ Jackie Robinson

Coaches are inundated with questions about how to get into running...and how to be healthier...and how to perform better.  More often than not, the response to our advice is a litany of reasons why the advice won't work.  Those replies are usually just defense mechanisms.  The fear of failure keeps so many people from experiencing the happiness that comes from achieving one's goals.  Why is the person that we typically have the least faith in the person we see each morning in the mirror?  Why is it easier to make an excuse than it is to take a leap of faith and start trying to be the person you want to see in the mirror?

Over the last couple of weeks, FLEET FEET Sports has kicked off a new No Boundaries 5K training program, the Ton of Fun weight loss challenge, and our spring Half Marathon Program.  Nearly 700 people chose to take a first step towards the becoming the person they want to be.  Each and every one of those people deserve a hearty congratulations!  Yes, the path ahead will likely be travelled in a "2 steps forward; 1 step backward" manner.  There will surely be times when they doubt themselves along the way.  What they cannot do, however, is listen to any of their natural negative self-talk.  To be successful, they need to look in the mirror and see the person they aim to be.  They need to be open to listening and learning from those that can help, while learning to block those that steer them away from achieving their dreams - and sometimes that person will be themselves.

The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.  You have everything you need to be successful right here...right now.  If you look in the mirror and don't see the happy, successful person you wish you were, then get out of the grandstand and come live life.  If you've taken that first step... awesome! You're through the toughest part.  All you have to do is keep that crank turning.  FLEET FEET is here to help you each step along the way. We can fit you, teach you, train you, time you, and celebrate your successes with you.

Good Luck and Happy Racing!
