With more traction and less weight, the HOKA Speedgoat 5 has been redesigned to take on the trails with ease. HOKA added Vibram® Megagrip with Traction Lugs to give you more grip, particularly on loose soil and dirt. The redesigned placement gives you more lugs in the heel and toe area to provide more durability and help you handle slippery or uneven terrain.
HOKA also re-engineered the midsole compound and made it lighter so the Speedgoat 5 gives you HOKA’s signature soft marshmallow ride through the trails. A late-stage meta-rocker helps roll you through your gait—making mountain climbs easier and allowing you to barrel downhill for a smooth and propulsive ride.
The upper of the Speedgoat 5 features a stretchy double jacquard mesh to give you the confidence to take on the trails. It improves both the comfort and durability of the shoe. Our reviewers loved the more lock-down fit that the new upper gave them in our HOKA Speedgoat 5 review.
There is a protective toe rand that gives extra protection against rocks and trail debris. Plus, HOKA re-designed the heel counter, giving it an extended heel tab to make it easier to pull on and prevent any rubbing at the Achilles.

HOKA advanced the Speedgoat 5 while still keeping the same sensation as previous versions. They reworked the outsole by adding Vibram® Megagrip with Traction Lugs to give you more grip. A new, lighter midsole compound reduces the shoe’s weight. Finally, HOKA redesigned the upper with an extended heel tab and a more durable double jacquard mesh that stretches for a better fit.

Just ok
My shoe of choice is Altra but reviews aren’t great…so I thought I would try these. The grip was definitely better than altra but the fit is tight. My feet went numb after 2 easy miles. I really like the colors and look. They just aren’t for me

Grateful
I bought these for my wife for an upcoming marathon. Do to her spine issues her back would hurt very badly after her marathons or even a day at Disneyland. She was told about these shoes and how coney are. So I got her a pair hoping for the best. She tried them out at Disneyland first and loved them. Saturday she had a marathon and not only did her pace pick up she finished the race in a lot less pain then she ever has. I will definitely be getting her a couple more pairs for different occasions. I’m so thankful someone recommended these to her.

My Favorite
These shoes work the best for me I’m over 50 back of the pack speed and run a technical trail marathon that’s always muddy. I wear these for road running too. The support and cushion are just right for me. Compared to the Speedgoat 3 & 4 I find these more lightweight and flexible but still have enough support and stability. The lugs seem to wear down quicker but not a big issue (and I do wear them on the road).

Hoka speedboats women size 9.5
I thought I would like these based on reviews but I don’t like them at all. I am a long distance trail runner so after reading reviews I thought these shoes would do great (I usually wear Brooks). I live in Nepal so I had to order them and have them brought here. But after a month of trying them out ugh…they hurt my ankles and calves. Not my favorite shoe I will definitely go back to Brooks.

Beat trail shoes ever
I’ve been a fan of Speedgoats for a while. The Speedgoat 5 actually has a few improvements on a shoe I didn’t think needed improving. The tongue is made of a softer material and has a groove in it so it no longer cuts into your ankle. The drop and slight rocker bottom are perfect for propulsion ( I think they kept this the same). The new styling and color choices are attractive. I used to order a wide but found I didn’t need to in this shoe. Interestingly I no longer need my orthotics with this shoe—they are just that comfortable. I use these shoes on trail ( excellent grip ) gravel and even pavement. They are my go to shoe.
